Host-only network details revert to 0.0.0.0

Reported by: jeffrey.crum Owned by:
Component: network/hostif Version: VirtualBox 4.2.8

Description

Upgraded to 4.2.8 with VM set to host-only networking. File>Preferences>network>Virtualbox Host-only ethernet adapter>settings. The IPv4 Address and net mask are now set to 0.0.0.0. If I try to both back to a real address, the setting is not saved and my VM's will not start as long as they are set to host only.

I'm running into a similar problem with the latest 4.2.16 where the IPv4 Address that I enter is lost after reboot -

Does anyone know the status of this ticket ?

I am having the very same problem on version 5.0.16 r105871

If I start VirtualBox and go to Preferences > Network > Host-only Networks and enter the following settings...

IPv4 address/netmask: 192.168.56.1/255.255.255.0 DHCP server enabled checked Server address/netmask: 192.168.56.100/255.255.255.0 Server lower/upper address: 192.168.56.100/192.168.56.254

... the changes are saved (I can see that on the VirtualBox.xml file) but if I open the Preferences dialog again and go to the Network adapter I just edited, the dialog shows 0.0.0.0 on both "IPv4 address" and "IPv4 Network Mask" on the "Adapter" tab. The "DHCP Server" tab shows the right settings I did enter. Looking at the VBoxSVC.log everything looks normal except for the following line:

usbLibDevCfgDrGet: DeviceIoControl 1 fail winEr (31)

I have attached the full log in case you may find it useful.

What happens if you go to the host-only preferences dialog and change the address to something other than the default, say, 192.168.156.1?
