Appears to be a re-occurence of ticket #3578 ??
Extract from VBox.log: 00:00:01.295084 NX - No-Execute Page Protection = 0 (1)
Host is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Guest is cloned Windows XP Pro SP3 and attempting to upgrade to Windows 8. VirtualBox version: virtualbox-4.2 4.2.6-82870~Ubuntu~lucid
Installation fails to complete with message: Your PC needs to restart. Please hold down the power button. Error Code: 0x0000005D
Settings -> System -> Processor for guest shows "Enable PAE/NX" checked.

The generic-pae kernel fixed the problem. Now that the Windows 8 VM is working I will be investing in more RAM to ensure reasonable performance. Many thanks for prompt advice, and please close ticket.

We have added a comment to the "known issues" section of the user manual explaining under which circumstances NX is supported in the guest.
Try to install and use the generic-pae kernel on your host. It is true that Windows 8 requires PAE support and for 32-bit hosts, the NX bit is normally only enabled for guests running on PAE hosts.
But I see in the log that your host has only 2012MB in total. I strongly suggest you to increase the amount of host RAM, otherwise you will not have much fun running this guest.
