Try to install and use the generic-pae kernel on your host. It is true that Windows 8 requires PAE support and for 32-bit hosts, the NX bit is normally only enabled for guests running on PAE hosts.

But I see in the log that your host has only 2012MB in total. I strongly suggest you to increase the amount of host RAM, otherwise you will not have much fun running this guest.

The generic-pae kernel fixed the problem. Now that the Windows 8 VM is working I will be investing in more RAM to ensure reasonable performance. Many thanks for prompt advice, and please close ticket.

We have added a comment to the "known issues" section of the user manual explaining under which circumstances NX is supported in the guest.
