The Virtualbox Guest Service uses 100% CPU in 64-bit Windows 8 guests.
Stopping the Virtualbox Guest Service fixes the problem until the guest reboots.

Also occurs with Windows 7 64 bit guest and Ubuntu 12.04 host before the guest additions were updated.

I had the same problem. Version: VirtualBox 4.3.6 r91406 Host: Ubuntu 12.04 - 64 bit Guest: Windows 8 - 32 bit
GUEST SETTINGS RAM: 1024 MB Chipset: PIIX3 "Enable I/O APIC" enabled 1 CPU with PAE/NX enabled VT-x and nested paging enabled Video Memory: 32 MB Monitor number: 1 No extended video features (2D / 3D acceleration) Audio enabled with driver ALSA and controller Intel HD Audio Network: NAT mode with Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop
I use many other VMs with Windows XP and Windows 7, but I had this problem only with Windows 8 machine.
Now I have uninstalled and reinstalled Guest Additions, and the problem seems solved (no more VirtualBox Guest Service using a lot of CPU).

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
Unable to reproduce. No CPU load afer upgrade/install additions on newly created Windows 8 guest. Can you provide more information about guest memory size, 3d enabled/disabled etc?
