Description
I've installed two fresh VMs of Windows 7 respectively Windows 8 and updated each with all available updates. Every time I'm trying to install big software(Visual Studio, Inventor) or extracting large(~3GB) packages windows is freezing but VirtualBox is running on. I've already run Prim95 on Windows 7 without any errors.
If necessary I can attach some file for Windows 8, too.

Yes, I'm using the version from rpmfusion.
I'm going to install the official version tonight and post the results later on.

I've just tested the official version and got the same behavior. I don't know if it is necessary but I'm running kernel version 3.6.7-4.fc17.x86_64.

Thanks for the additional testing. Unfortunately we are not able to reproduce any freeze. Using Linux 3.6.7 should be fine (I'm using this myself).
Can you explain a bit more in detail what you mean by freezing? I assume the guest will not handle mouse clicks and keyboard events anymore, right? Are you able to terminate the VM using the VM menu? Could you also disable 3D to check if that makes any difference?

OK, with disabled 3d acceleration I was able to unpack and install the software (Invetor 2013). I'm going to install VS2012 next but I don't think there will be any problems.
The previous freeze was like you said. The guest didn't react to any interaction but the VM runs along. I was able to terminate the guest with "Power off the machine".
I'm using the proprietary nVidia driver 304.64. My GPU is a GTX 560 Ti.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
I see that you are using a custom build of VirtualBox. Any chance to check if the same happens with the FC17 package from our website? If so, could you attach a VBox.log file for such a VM session as well?
