Ubuntu 12.04 crashing from graphical operations

Description
I recently created a new VM running Ubuntu 12.04 32-Bit and installed the Guest Additions. The VM initially works fine but any time I try to do something graphically intensive like change the theme of ubuntu the VM crashes. Even alt-tabbing has crashed it before. I spoke with someone from the irc channel and they told me to put in a ticket.
