VB 4.1.18 doesn't show USB devices in Windows Explorer

Description
Although VB 4.1.18 shows attached Compact Flash card reader and a Western Digital HDD, neither can be seen in Windows Explorer.
Using Windows 7 64-bit with all updates applied, all default settings apart from auto update, which was set to download drivers on demand but now downloads automatically. Installed in Mac OS 10.7.4. on a Mac Pro tower.
Same operating system installed under Bootcamp has no problems mounting and giving access to USB devices in Windows Explorer.

Problem is solved by installing "VirtualBox 4.1.18 Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack" from the VB website.
