can't get ubuntu to work

Description
when trying to install ubuntu on virtualbox, it fails. i get to the "ubuntu" screen, it stays there for a while, then I get an error telling me to send you the log files. I try to install ubuntu 11.10 (ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso) (also tryed the 10.04, but got the same error) I use windows xp on an acer aspire one, 1.33gHs, 140 GB

The log pretty much says it all. You don't have enough memory available to support the guest.
Console: VM runtime error: fatal=false, errorID=HostMemoryLow message="Unable to allocate and lock memory. The virtual machine will be paused. Please close applications to free up memory or close the VM"
