openSUSE, Debian and Mandriva just install GA silently. Yes, there is
a potential risk of over-writing new GA by doing minor update. (But so
far heard no complains about this from users)

In the real life only 3D acceleration seems to be affected by newer
GA, as compared to older 3.2.x GA. Perhaps most users won't notice.
Those who will - could manually uninstall bundled distro's GA
(deb/rpm) and install Oracle's.
