no USB devices available to Windows Guests. Happens with and without extpack. Solaris is Build 151

Yeah, you are perfeclty right. I suggest you add that to the changelog as well, for long time VBox users (like me) who dont care much for the manual.

With VirtualBox 4.1 you need to be part of 'vboxuser' group to access USB devices from VirtualBox.
Please read the User Manual section 2.4.2.
