Virtual Box GUI locks up on close; Access denied

Virtual Box (4.0.4) crashes just before it wants to close.

Host machine Win7 Sp1 x64 Huest machines 2 Ubuntu 10.04 Guest machines

Maybe 4.0.4 issue, maybe Win7 Sp1 issue crashes with MS Windows Error Service coming up to search for a solution. Please update the host graphics card driver to the latest version.

updated Intel Graphics drivers still the same issue, same Exception code and Error Offset

I know have the newest available driver for my graphics card installed. Due to the fact, that it doesn't let me install intel drivers nor let me use the intel online driver update service, this is a driver from 21.10.09.

Also filing a service request with my oem (ACER)

Graphics Card is onboard GM45 Chipset , Intel GMA X4500MHD , intel Series 4 Express graphics card driver

got a couple of updates:

I have not had ANY other driver issues with my laptop so far, so I want to emphasize the possibility of a VirtualBox issue.

I have a workaround, that - with reduced capabilities - works. Deactivate 3D support.

Regarding the host graphics drivers: I confirmed the issue with 2 versions of the drivers: this is 8.15.10.1808 (last on Acer webpage) and 8.15.10.1855 (current as of Microsoft Windows update tools).

In order to confirm the issue is not to a wrong driver installation, I COMPLETELY deinstalled the display drivers leaving me with the Standard VGA drivers. Consequetively installing the above mentioned versions of the display drivers, I tested VirtualBox at each stage.

The result is (with 3D support enabled): Standard drivers: NO problem 8.15.10.1808: crash 8.15.10.1855: crash

With 3D support disabled: 8.15.10.1855: works

I have 3 different guest OS running, the issue is the same for all of them.

In the end it could be an issue with the interoperation between VBox and INtel graphics drivers. ?!

Host is Windows 7 Professional SP1 (x64) with all updates installed.
