#5622 closed defect (fixed)

3.1.0 r55467 Guru Meditation

Reported by: Jonathan Edwards Owned by:
Component: VMM Version: VirtualBox 3.1.0
Keywords: guru Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description

Created a new VM using VDI files from 3.0.10 and successfully started Windows XP SP3 in VBox. After running for approx 10 min with Outlook 2007 and some development tools (in VM) and various browsers (Firefox and Chrome) in the host (Ubuntu 9.04; 2.6.28-16-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP) I received the dreaded Guru Meditation dialog. Nothing out of the ordinary was going on within the host (no heavy I/O, CPU or Memory intensive operations). I experienced similar Guru Meditation in 3.0.1 BETA 1 & 2. Logs are available in the forums (and can be attached). I am attaching the log from the 3.1.0 RELEASE incident.

The summary from the log file is:

Your host is 2.6.28-16-generic linux.x86 (LINUX_32BITS_UBUNTU_9_04) and guest is "WinXP".

I saw a similar (duplicate?) bug of this one: #5647 (about Ubuntu 9.10 host)

Correct - the person who opened #5647 attached a comment to my thread in the forums indicating that this defect might be a duplicate (perhaps because the host in this other person's case is 9.10 (2.6.31-x) it isn't exactly a duplicate - but the symptoms are similar).

I originally reported this issue with the 3.1.0 BETA - the forum posts have logs attached http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24944#p111272

I think I had the same error just now running Debian Unstable (current from today), VirtualBox 3.1.0 and a Vista guest.

I'll attach my VBox.log just in case. If I'm wrong, sorry for the confusion and I'll be happy to open a separate ticket.

#5744 and #5718 marked as a duplicates

Try again with 3.1.2 please. (due out very soon)

comment:6 by Jonathan Edwards, 14 years ago

For what its worth, 3.1.2 is working well. An important note, however, is that the host is no longer running Ubuntu 9.04; the host is now running 9.10 (with user installed 2.6.31-8-generic kernel from lucid repo).
