Obviously you didn't execute /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup as root => Please run this command as root! If it still fails, please attach the vbox-install.log file.

ran it as root, says permission denied. ran it as root with sudo, said command not found. i can not find a vbox-install.log file it is not in /var/log. and i thought about it and the vbox stopped booting shortly after i udgraded it to 3.0.0.8

If the log file cannot be created at /var/log/vbox-install.log then something is screwed up with your host. root should be able to create and change files there. If not, fix this as this is the first step to get the VBox installation work.

ok. how do I instaal an old build back over without losing my guest that already exists?

comment:5 by Frank Mehnert, 15 years ago

I guess you didn't understand me: The permissions of your /var/log directory are wrong. This directory has to be writable. Please check this before you continue. There is no need to downgrade the VBox package.
