"VirtualBox Interface has stopped working" on discarding a snapshot => fixed in svn

Description
Host is Vista x64 Enterprise, guest is Vista x32 Enterprise.
I have a .vhd drive with multiple snapshots. When discarding (merging) the last snapshot into its parent (via the "Discard Snapshot" menu in the GUI), I get this error:
"VirtualBox Interface has stopped working" Application Name: VBoxSVC.exe Fault Module Name: VBoxRT.dll (full details attached)
The GUI stays up, showing the machine as "Discarding" state.
If I then shut down the GUI and manually remove the reference to the differencing .vhd from VirtualBox.xml that no longer exists, then I can run the VM again and observe that the merge was actually successful, preserving both the disk and the current state.
This happens every time I attempt to discard the latest snapshot, and every time I can manually fix up the .xml file to fix things up.

Note that there was no .log file in the log directory for my machine. When reproducing this issue for the bug report, I first shut down the VM (saving state), closed the GUI, cleared all files out of the Logs dir, and then started the GUI and attempted the merge. At the end of this no new log files were created.

I have the problem on Windows 7 x64 and Virtualbox 3.1.0
Every time I try to delete a snapshot from the GUI or using vboxmanage snapshot I receive this error and have to restart my machine in order to get the functionality back. But the snapshot cannot be removed.
In the beginning I had 3 snapshots and now I was able to reduce it to the last one, but this one I cannot remove.

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 4.1.4.
