The same thing happens to me. Everything is fine until I plug in an external USB Mouse.

I get a similar message when I attempt to run the program from a console using sudo:

Qt WARNING: X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169

Major opcode: 145 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0

Qt WARNING: Failed to open device Qt WARNING: X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169

Major opcode: 145 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0

Qt WARNING: Failed to open device

I do not get this message when I click the icon in my applications menu.

Running Compaq Presario 2100, UbuntuStudio 7.04 Sorry, I'm a newb so if you need more information, tell me what that is, and how I get it, and I'll get that to you.

The Qt warnings are something which always happen when VirtualBox is run on Ubuntu. I have not investigated why they happen, but they are harmless, so if VirtualBox fails for any reason, it is not connected with these warnings. When VirtualBox is started from the menu, the warnings are not visible because there is no console for them to go to.

Errors like the one initially reported (failed to create the COM object) usually mean that VirtualBox has not been correctly installed. I suggest that the original poster go to the forums or the IRC channel which are more appropriate for this sort of issue.

The USB mouse issue will also be something separate, but I also suggest going to the IRC channel.
