Add brigde networking as in VMWare

Reported by: dm Assigned to:

Description

Please add to VirtualBox the 'bridged' networking as in VMWare: it uses existing LAN connection, the guest gets IP in this LAN's subnet, without need to install new adapters/TAP on the host, so it's much simpler then 'host networking'.

I have to agree with DM, an equivalent to Bridged Networking in VMware is somthing that is definately missing from VirtualBox!

Yet another requester for this feature. My host is Windows XP which is limited to one network bridge so I can't use "host networking" for my needs. This might force use to use VMWare :-(

Just to add another voice, I agree this would be excellent as well. Upgrading VBox is a total pain with the current system.

I agree with others. +1 voice.

+1

I run a DHCP server on ubuntu server for a windows network. If one could have a linux virtual PC appear as a network entity in its own right it opens up a world of possibilities (testing hosting services etc). Everyone in the network uses wifi and windows. For most part NAT will do fine, but the final barrier to handling the virtual PC as another stand-alone PC is simple, working on wifi, bridged networking.

I have to give +1 and agree that this is critical. I do not understand why this is not the #1 feature being worked on. It is one of the 3 reasons why I consider virtualbox still a 'toy' emulator compared to vmware and Hyper-V

The feature is almost finished. And bashing certainly doesn't help here, so if you don't have anything meaningful to add, just keep quiet.

We do appreciate that these things take time and as you've previously posted it's in the works.

Looking forward to the release.

Thanks!
