Shared folder keeps refreshing in explorer about every second

I have 2 Windows XP VMs on RHEL 6.4. One has no problems with shared folders, in the other the shared folder (actually 2 of them) constantly refresh about once a second, making it practically impossible to select something in them. That is not new problem, it was there from the very beginning when I built this VM in Aug 2012. I don't remember what Vbox version was newest then, but it was a problem then and it is a problem now. The problem does not affect the "local" (boot) drive, only Vbox shared folders. Also, the problem affect Windows Explorer only. When I open the shared folders in FreeCommander the problem does not exist, but reason for this maybe that the folders in VBox shared folders do not refresh at all on their own in that file manger, but folders on the "local" drive do refresh. The 2 shared folders are on different physical drives. One is on the host's local hard drive, the other on the USB attached external drive. Both suffer the same issue, so it must be something local to that VM.
