= Bugtracker = This site offers a public bugtracker. In case you encounter problems with !VirtualBox or have other suggestions for improvements, you can use this facility to report those issues, which will then be called a "ticket". Each such ticket receives a unique number that you can later refer to in order to see if any progress was made, or add comments to it. == How to improve your chances of getting your problem solved == * '''Remember''' that !VirtualBox has a huge '''community''' with lots of '''highly skilled programmers''' in it. The core team is small and busy and the number of users with bug reports is large. But there might well be someone else out there with the same problem as you and the skills to fix it (or willing to work for contract - crowdfunding?). * '''Remember''' that you can still do a lot of work on a bug even if you can't program by '''studying and isolating''' it. Problems which '''developers can reproduce''' quickly and easily are much more likely to be fixed than problems which only happen on certain systems, or require installing special software in special virtual machines. So look for '''simpler ways of triggering''' the problem. * '''Try out a [wiki:Testbuilds test build]''' to see if the problem has already been fixed. * '''Do some research''' (e.g. using search engines, our [http://forums.virtualbox.org forums] and [search:?link&q=&ticket=on existing bug tickets]) before creating a ticket. Try to '''solve as much of the problem''' as you can yourself or in collaboration with other users. * Describe as precisely as you can '''how to reproduce the problem''', bearing in mind that it may be triggered by something special on your own computer system. Fixing problems which cannot be reproduced is long and painful, both for the developer '''and the bug reporter'''. It may help to find other people with the same problem and compare notes. * '''Attach a log file.''' The log file contains a lot of useful information about both the host and the guest systems as well as information about what happened during a particular machine run. * '''Choose a summary carefully.''' The bug tracker and ticket notifications are mainly seen by (busy) developers, and unless a summary catches their eye and looks related to the things they as an individual work on the ticket may not even be read. * Please stay '''polite, relevant and on-topic'''. Try to avoid creating tickets for issues which are already being worked on, but do also try to avoid commenting on a ticket if you are not sure that your problem is the same (and not just similar) - if the ticket contains a link to a forum topic, consider going there first. Offensive or unrelated comments and tickets take time away from other things and sap our and other people's motivation; in extreme cases we can delete them. '''Note:''' To create new tickets, you must have registered with this site ''and'' be logged in with your user name and password. Use the "Register" and "Login" links at the top right for that. If you add a comment to an existing ticket, you will receive e-mail notification every time that ticket is updated. Then, use these links to access the bugtracker: * '''[/newticket Create a new bug ticket]''' (you must be logged in for this) * '''View existing bug tickets:''' * [search:?link&q=&ticket=on Search for bug reports] * [query:?status=new&status=assigned&status=reopened Advanced search] * '''Browse existing bug tickets:''' * [report:1 All open bug tickets] * All open bug tickets for a specific '''host''': * [report:10 Windows] * [report:12 Linux] * [report:11 Mac OS X] * [report:13 Solaris] * [report:17 all other or unrelated to a specific host] * All open bug tickets for a specific '''guest''': * [report:14 Windows] * [report:15 Linux] * [report:16 Solaris] * [report:25 BSD] * [report:49 OSX Server] * [report:18 all other or unrelated to a specific guest] * All open bug tickets for a specific '''component''': * [report:23 VMM] * [report:36 VMM/HWACCM: hardware virtualization (VT-x and AMD-V)] * [report:37 VMM/RAW: software virtualization] * [report:47 Guest SMP] * [report:22 RDP (remote desktop protocol)] * [report:21 USB] * [report:33 virtual disk] * [report:34 DVD] * [report:32 network] * [report:44 network/hostif] * [report:45 network/NAT] * [report:27 audio] * [report:39 uart] * [report:29 host support] * [report:28 guest additions] * [report:24 shared folders] * [report:50 guest control] * [report:38 clipboard] * [report:43 3D support] * [report:51 WDDM] * [report:26 VM control] * [report:48 EFI] * [report:46 OVF] * [report:30 GUI] * [report:40 GUI/seamless] * [report:41 GUI/compiz] * [report:42 GUI/multiview] * [report:31 installer] * [report:35 documentation] * [report:20 all other] * [report:9 All bug tickets reported by me (including closed)]
