The message:

OpenGL Warning: Failed to connect to host. Make sure 3D acceleration is enabled for this VM.

Will basically prompt up everywhere a 3d program tries to do something. Obviously I did do my research and debugging. My 3d acceleration of my host machine is enabled. I am using VirtualBox 4.1.6 running on Gentoo 64bit. My guest system is Gentoo 32bit.

The host system is running the nvidia-drivers 290.06. As you can see in the log, there is 3D acceleration.

The host I am trying to run VirtualBox on is using the 4.1.6 guest aditions. I have also tried to just use the 4.1.6 Xorg virtualbox video driver from OSE. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

As you can see, after reading the cr_debug_guest.log I was able to figure out it was a permissions problem, root runs with acceleration The user that actually started X the first time was in the group video and in the group vboxusers.

User that issues startx, should be part of group: vboxguest
