Printout is very slow! — at Version 10

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

I installed Virtualbox under SUSE 10.3 with W2K/SP4 as Client.

Everything is working very well except Print.

My Printers (Hp815c via Parallel and Samsung ML 1510 via USB) are connected via Printserver (p/USB). The Printers will work very well under Linux (SUSE 10.3) and under W2K solo.

But in the Virtualbox a Print needs 10 times more Time! than under the solo systems.

Help!

How can I solve This Problem?

Same problem here with an XP guest under Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10: printing works, but it takes aaages under the Virtualbox guest. I use a HP3055 printer on Ethernet, using the standard HP driver package for XP. Under Linux itself everything runs smoothly and fast.

Replying to johanprins: I upgraded from Virtualbox 1.5.0 OSE to 1.5.6 today and tried printing from my same XP guest: the problem is unchanged. Printing works, but is VERY slow.

I'm experiencing the same problem with Virtualbox 1.6.0. I'm watching as a 5MB print job is taking close to 10 minutes to send over 100mbit ethernet. I have Windows XP Pro SP2 running under a Kubuntu 8.04 host. The host OS prints quickly. I recently switched away from VMWare in which I didn't have this problem. I suspect it may have something to do with using NAT networking instead of creating a bridge? (I used VMWare with it's bridged networking)

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) as the host and Windows XP Vista as the guest. I am printing to a Dell All-In-One 962 printer. Everything works correctly after I installed the drivers in the VM but it prints very slowly. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you all enable the ECHI USB support?

I am running VirtualBox 2.0.2 on a 64 Ubuntu Host with a Windows XP Guest and experiencing the same printing problem. I have enabled ECHI USB support, but would that affect networked printers?

I've also used the windows drivers for my network printer, which it identifies, but sadly can not successfully print to.

This is holding me back from using VirtualBox.

I've also seen this on VirtualBox 2.1.2 on ubuntu 8.04 host/windows xp guest. It seems to be related to the device filters. When I added my Dell AIO 924 to the filter, spooling was terribly slow, but when I removed it, and just select it from the device list when I run the vm, it was fine. ECHI support didn't seem to matter either way.

Doesn't seem to help me either way. I am using a Windows 7 guest on Ubuntu 9.10 host to sync my iPod to iTunes. I didn't have a filter configured -- I selected the iPod by right clicking on the USB icon -- but it was still very slow. I have verified that the EHCI support was enabled. Is there anything I can do to help debugging this issue?

I was having the same problem when I printed to Canon Pixma ip4000 on a Windows XP guest from a Windows 7 x64 machine. The guest runs in VirtualBox 3.1.4 installed on CentOS 5.4. I fixed the problem by changing the guest's network adapter from NAT mode to bridged mode.

I found the solution here: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6427&start=0
