Description (last modified by aeichner)

Hi, After installing virtualbox extension pack I can't boot virtual machines using PXE boot. It seems that booting fails during transfer bootfile from tftp. After uninstalling extensions everything is back to normal. My environment is for testing remote OS deployments and consist two virtual machines: Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 with WDS and DHCP services enabled and client where I'm trying to install OS remotly. Network card for Win2008 is Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop Network card for client is PCNet-Fast III(without extension pack) or Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (with extension pack) HostOS is Win7 Professional x64

Simmilar Situation here.

Windows 7x64 Host-Machine, running VirtualBox 4.2.r80737 Without Installing Extension Pack 4.2.0-80737 the PXE Boot of WinPE 4.0 (the WinPE Edition which supports Windows 8) runs fine, but no USB 2.0 Support is available. Therefore we have to install the Extension Pack - but with installed Extension Pack PXE Boot of WinPE 4.0 stops after the initial Loader has been loaded, the big WIM File can not be transferred.

WORKAROUND Solution: Installing Extension Pack 4.2.0-80737 (to have USB 2.0 Support) but deleting the File "PXE-Intel.rom" which ist located in the Extension Pack Directory works. After Deleting this file the PXE ROM Bootscreen changes to the iPXE ROM Bootscreen and the PXE Boot of WinPE 4.0 works, and even USB 2.0 works fine.

Assumption: the "PXE-Intel.rom" which comes with Extension Pack is not necessary with Virtualbox 4.2.0 any more? It seems to be a "downgrade" compared with the original iPXE ROM provided with Virtualbox 4.2.0.
