VBox daemon won't start

Description
I can set up a virtual machine entry, but when it comes time to start it, the daemon won't start.
Command /etc/init.d/virtualbox start returns [FAILED]
From dmesg:
VirtualBox[4836]: segfault at 128 ip b528a695 sp bffedbf0 error 4 in libQtNetwork.so.4.7.3[b51d9000+125000]

Now resolved. This one just "went away."
After a complete reinstall I had a DKMS issue affecting all apps using DKMS. When installing, I did not first remove /var/lib/dkms directory. I removed and re-installed the DKMS modules. Since then I have had a kernel upgrade, and the fresh DKMS modules are working normally. That is a separate bug-that-was-not-a-bug, but I am adding it here in case the info helps anybody.
