Linux Guest Startup hangs

My usage scenario (on Windows Vista) is to first run the VirtualBox GUI, double-click on the VM (Ubuntu) to launch it, and then immediately close the GUI while the VM continues to boot. This has always worked flawlessly up to 3.2.12. From there, I upgraded to 4.0.4 where the VM now hangs during the boot process most of the time.

As a result, I now have to wait until the whole VM boots up fully into Ubuntu before I can close the VirtualBox GUI. I have attached my VBox.log until the point where I gave up and closed the virtual box process in the Task Manager.
