Description
I installed VirtualBox 4.0.4 last week. The network was running fine after that.
I've had a couple of goes at setting up Ubuntu 10.04 guests (the last successful). Yesterday my networking stopped working (wired and wireless). I could use both if I booted from a Ubuntu partition on the drive but could not get any network access from Windows XP.
I eventually unistalled the VirtualBox Host Only protocol from the Ethernet adapter settings and both network adapters started working again. I was not running VirtualBox at the time.
Sorry I don't have all the detail, I'm running on my recollections.
As a side note I'll mention a couple of other issues I encountered when trying to sort this out in case there is some association that I can't see.
- I was unable to use System Restore to restore to any of the recovery point's, that may not be associated.
- Nor could I boot from my CD to the Lenovo supplied recovery disk.
- I could not get Bluetooth (USB adapter) working but it worked after the Host Only protocol was uninstalled.
My laptop is working again but I still don't understand why it failed. I've not started VirtualBox again to see if it still works.
I doubt that it's relevant but the Ubuntu version setup as guest is an EMC2 (http://www.linuxcnc.org/content/view/2/4/lang,en/) one which has some real time components.
The guest was not running at any time while I was experiencing the networking failure but it's mentioned because it's a little out of the ordinary.
