#8671 closed defect (fixed)

Frequent and random guest resets/lockups when networking enabled

Reported by: travisp Owned by:
Component: network Version: VirtualBox 4.0.4

Guest type: Linux Host type: Linux

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Starting about a week ago, my Windows XP guest has become unusable when network is enabled because it resets or locks up very frequently. This happens regardless of whether I use PCNet II/III or Intel Server network drivers. I have also tried Guest Additions versions 3.1.12, 4.0.2, 4.0.4, and 4.0.5 (r 70636 from a link in the tickets).

This is on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. It's possible some change has happened on the host that has triggered this.

I have tried a complete removal of VirtualBox 4.0.4 and reinstallation. I have also tried restoring the XP Guest from backup from when it was working.

Could be related to #7930 as the Windows XP guest runs in PAE mode. Disabling nested paging should work around this bug.
