Description
Hi,
I have discovered that with the recent updates to Ubuntu 11.04, the VirtualBox Guest Additions doesn't works anymore. I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed since the beginning of March 2011 and I have saved several snapshots. Until the 15 of March all worked well, but suddenly, beginning with the updates of the 18 of March, the Guest Additions have stopped to work. I have other virtual machines installed with other Linux versions (e.g. Ubuntu 10.04), but here all works fine.
The consequence is that I can't test the new Unity interface anymore.
I attach my Vbox.log.

Of course, because they changed the X server ABI. The next VirtualBox maintenance release will support Natty.

Ah, ok. Fine thanks. And it's possible to know a release date for the next maintenance release? Or at least a period (days, weeks, ...)?
Many thanks

I'm afraid that we don't do any public release schedule, at least partly because we like to be able to "release when we are ready". However for now you could install the Guest Additions package in the Natty repository - as far as I know it is very close to the released 4.0.4 Additions with fixes backported to make it work on current Natty. If that doesn't do the trick we could provide you with an Additions pre-release.

Thank you Michael, but, at least for me, your suggestion doesn't works. The ISO from the package in the Natty repository don't have any effect.

I believe that the package is virtualbox-ose-guest-x11, and installs the Additions directly without an ISO image. You will probably need to install virtualbox-ose-guest-dkms first if it isn't a dependency of virtualbox-ose-guest-x11.

Ok Michael, now it's perfect! Many thanks to you for the support.
Now I can use again the very promising Ubuntu Unity.
Best Regards

Just to mention it so that I can find this again with the usual keywords: this change adds support for X.org 1.10 (and isn't really Natty specific).

The 4.0.6 additions contain support for X.org 1.10 and should fix this ticket.
