Guru Meditation -4014 (VERR_VMX_INVALID_GUEST_STATE)

Reported by: Niki Waibel Owned by:
Component: VMM/HWACCM Version: VirtualBox 4.0.4
Keywords: "Guru Meditation" -4014 VERR_VMX_INVALID_GUEST_STATE Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Solaris

Description (last modified by Ramshankar Venkataraman)

"Guru Meditation -4014 (VERR_VMX_INVALID_GUEST_STATE)" on:

host os=solaris10 mem=72gbyte cpus=16 net=aggr1(igb0/igb1)
guest os=centos4.9(64bit) mem=16gbyte cpus=8 net=bridged(Am79C973/pcnet32)

VM is heavily used (cpu/memory/network).

unsure if this is releated to #7707, #6580 and/or #6349.

i've seen the clock running like crazy (1 virtual day within 1 real hour), but VBoxService seems to keep this under control:

/VirtualBox/GuestAdd/VBoxService/--timesync-set-threshold = 15000
/VirtualBox/GuestAdd/VBoxService/--timesync-interval = 2500

HPET is enabled.

Any change when you decrease the amount of guest RAM, for instance to 8GB?

Could you give Frank's suggestion (of reducing guest RAM to 8 or 4GB) a try?

comment:4 by Niki Waibel, 13 years ago

unfortunately not, as the user needs as much memory as possible (16gbyte with vbox-4.0.x).

as soon as i get a chance, i'll try 4.1.0 (beta), as it seems to have an even higher memory limit and a couple of bugs fixed.

I experienced crashes during the VM installation, with 16Gb, reduced to 7.8Gb it resolved the issue. Since then I get about every two weeks a GURU MEDITATION... Resource usage (CPU/MEM/HDD) is low at the time of the crash. I've always been upgrading the server with the latest version.
