Description (last modified by )
I have a Huawei USB serial GSM modem (model E1750), also called "Surfstick" by O2. It is a so-called flip flop USB device that acts like a mass storage device on first plug in, but after installation of the software it registers as an USB modem. This behavior seems to work fine with VirtualBox, as the software can be installed and even the USB modem will show up afterwards. Nevertheless, it won't get recognized by the shipped software ("Mobile Partner") which could indicate a general problem of VirtualBox and such devices.
My guest OS is Windows XP SP3.

Please reopen if still relevant with a recent VirtualBox release.
I have exactly the same issue running on openSuse 11.3 x86_64 with a Windows 7 32 bit VM
My USB modem is a Huawei K3715 dongle type (Vodaphone Mobile Connect)
Installing the Huawei drivers from: http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/huawei_drivers_3.09.00.00.zip and then running the MDMA application I see all the relevant Cell Tower (RSSI, LAC, RNC IS, CID and Packet Service types [RAT]), but can never start a dialup connection from the VM client.
This modem works perfectly on any other PC not running in a VM. This is not a new issue, but has been a problem since the USB functionality was first added to Virtual Box.
Thanks
