guest uses all of hosts ram

Description
i have ubuntu 10.10 host 4 gigs of ocz ram 6 core processor 7 hdd total one 32g ssd for the os and a slew of odd drives for the storage
when running vb the guest slowly consumes all of my ram including the 1.3 gig swap drive
xp 64 bit is the guest i have had it set for 3 cores and 1 gig of ram but after this issue started i tried to drop the ram allotted to 512 and 1 core but it still happens
