virtualbox-ose and VBoxManage hang when creating hard disk

Description
VBoxManage createhd --filename ubuntu --size 8000 --variant Fixed
Running this command makes it hang at 0% and it fails completely, but gives no output other than 0%

Worked with the reporter on IRC, and he said creating the image on /tmp would just work. So it is definitely a problem with encryption (either completely broken with such big files or just so slow that one loses patience before 8G are written).

This is in Ubuntu 10.10 and was originally reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+bug/662388 - strace is available there if needed (couldn't attach it here as the file was too big)
