Can't assign Wacom Bamboo Touch USB tablet to Ubuntu 9.04 guest from Mac host — at Version 2

Description (last modified by aeichner)

Although I can create a filter for it, whether or not that filter is enabled, I cannot seem to assign a Wacom Bamboo Touch USB tablet to an Ubuntu 9.04 guest while running on a Mac host. I can also see the Wacom tablet in the USB menu while the guest is running, but unlike other USB devices, the Wacom item is disabled. I can assign other devices (like memory card readers) without a problem. Does VirtualBox think this is a desktop HIDD device that is needed to operate the desktop system? I have tried this on a Mac Pro with a separate keyboard and trackball, and also on a MacBook Pro with keyboard and trackpad. I bought a separate USB Wacom Bamboo Touch tablet specifically so I could assign it to my Ubuntu guest but I don't seem to be able to.

Interestingly enough, I have no trouble assigning the Wacom USB tablet to an Ubuntu guest in VmWare Fusion. :-(

Hmmm. I did actually get the tablet to show up in the guest.

It looks like it is necessary to disconnect and reconnect the USB tablet whenever starting up the VM to which I want it to appear.

Is that intentional? It sounds like VirtualBox can only "grab" the USB device from the host when it is first connected to the host USB port?
