Playing full screen mode video does not work

Reported by: rgalvan Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 3.2.6
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Mac OS X

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Host: MacBook, 4GB RAM, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo, Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard 32 bit), NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB, Integrated Intel Audio.

Guest: Windows XP SP3, 32 bit.

Guest in full screen mode: when I try to see a video from e.g. youtube, if the video if played in a window (in guest) the thing are ok, but when I try to put it in full screen, the animation stops but the audio continues to play. If I put the video again in a window, the animation restarts. So it is not possible to see a full screen video in the guest. I have tried to disable 2D acceleration, the problem persist.

When I tried to disable DirectDraw, I got my first kernel panic of OS X in about 1 year and half of use ! Looking the report, it seems related to GeForce driver and I reported it to Apple.

Is there something (logs, more info, ...) that can I do to help to solve these problems ?

VM session with video play

comment:1 by rgalvan, 14 years ago

The problem is still present in 3.2.6. In addition, in 3.2.6, during the video play and after I have stopped it, the guest CPU usage was 100%. I had to shut down the XP Virtual Machine to stop the high CPU usage. In attach another VM session with video play, VirtualBox version 3.2.6.

It seems that there is no interest in this problem, in my opinion this is a big one, but after 3 weeks it seems that nothing was done to investigate / solve it.

Is there something (logs, more info, ...) that can I do to help to solve these problems ?

Please try to disable hardware acceleration in Flash player: right click on the movie to display the context menu, then select "Settings...", there clear the "Enable hardware acceleration" checkbox. Does it help in your case?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I have the full screen video running with hardware acceleration disabled ! I'll continue to test in the next days, but for now it seems a good work around. Do you know the reason of this behavior ?

In most cases fullscreen works fine even with this setting enabled. We do not know yet what causes the problem.
