WHQL: NDIStest reports issues with emulated pcNET-III cards

Description (last modified by aeichner)

Hi All,

Running WHQL tests is important, because it *significantly* improves emulation of devices correctness, and tests for potential problems. I strongly support testing of *all* VirtualBox devices for WHQL compatibility.

Host: Windows XP, VBox 3.2.0

Guest(s): 2 VMs of Windows XP, 1 CPU + pcNET-III card(s) + NDIStest 6.0 suite

pcNET-III drivers come with Windows, and are certified by Microsoft, but running NDIStest 6.0 WHQL test suite resulted in some errors.

tests, that failed:

BytesRead/Written 24 greater than buffer size.

Additionally, after about 15 minutes of tests, both VMs silently rebooted.

Unfortunately I don't have physical pcNET-III cards to test behavior on real computers.

This test suite is available from Microsoft.

The WHQL tests actually test device drivers so running it on drivers VirtualBox doesn't supply is of limited use.

The main use, is to remove potential bugs in VMM or in emulated device models.
