Linux addons can't be installed on Ubuntu 10.04 with Linux kernel 2.6.34 final. Screen crash and install failed.
Failed on 3.1.8 either.

Fixed the typo in the summary. Could you please attach (not paste!) some log files? Like the VM log, the Additions installation log from the guest (normally /var/log/vboxadd-install.sh) and /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the guest if there was a failed X session (please check that it is the right file though).
