It's telling me:

I have the same error with 3.2.8 on a Linux Host. I previously had Guest Additions installed on the xp guest, but booted to safe mode to reinstall in an attempt to get 3d acceleration support working.

More details - Guest Addition installation fails only when the XP guest is booted into "Diagnostic Mode" via msconfig. In actual safe mode the guest additions install without errors.
