Sounds to me like your VM process dies instead of getting properly shut down. Any chance to provide a core dump?

problem comes back. no files core.* in directory after testing. current state of guest is drops to shot down after restarting GUI. before that it is possible to restore virtual machine's state.

VirtualBox OSE is free of this bug and I going to use it.

This is old defect - #5656, #6027 :)

Problem arise when snapshots is not on the same disk, where <VM>.xml file is. Moving <VM>.xml file to the directory where snapshots of the given <VM> are and patching ...\.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml to
<MachineEntry uuid="..." src="<NEW PATH><VM>.xml"/>
will enable next snapshots persist during reload of VirtalBox GUI ! :)

Replying to antix4:

all .xml and snapshots are at the same disk. I have installed ver 1.0.8: VM with Debian saves snapshots fine. when I save snapshots it works fine. when I save current state with XP guest it restores fine due to restarting GUI.

I find that when I run GUI less then 5 seconds after close save state is good.

I tried to delete VM, that was created in 3.1.6 and create in 3.1.8 - looks fine.
