#6077 closed enhancement (obsolete)

"Are you sure to exit?" dialog to prevent the accidentally close of VirtualBox

Reported by: eric81 Owned by:
Component: other Version: VirtualBox 3.1.2
Keywords: Cc:
Guest type: other Host type: other

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

I sometimes close my VirtualBox accidentally by pressing Alt-F4 (instead of the window in the guest OS). I even missed the cross upper right one day (to close a window in the guest) and hit the cross from VirtualBox window.

It will save someones hard work if an (optional) dialog would ask if the user really wants to exit VirtualBox.

Hmm, but there is a dialog which appears when you try to close the VM window. The dialog is asking if you want to terminate the VM, if you want to send the ACPI shutdown signal or if you want to save the VM state. I think this dialog is sufficient. Or don't you see this dialog for some reason (bug)?

He's running FreeBSD without the Qt GUI (presumably vboxsdl). Possibly a FreeBSD port issue. (in which case you should report it to the FreeBSD folks)

Yes, vboxsdl. I'll create a ticket in the FreeBSD bugtracking.

Thank you for reply!

Oh, I missed the "without Qt4 frontend" ...

You want an confirmation dialog in VBoxSDL before closing? I think that does not exist yet so it would be a feature request and not FreeBSD related.

comment:6 by Sander van Leeuwen, 14 years ago

Alt-F4 is passed to the VM here (Windows host) and doesn't close the VBoxSDL window.

comment:7 by Frank Mehnert, 14 years ago

Right, on Linux the VM is closed without a confirmation. The VM is closed sanely. eric81, Note the --termacpi command line switch. And note further that we will not extend VBoxSDL to show any dialog box because this would be beyond of the purpose of that tiny GUI.
