Keyspan USA-19QW on host Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 64-bit guest XP

Mentioned USB hardware was working on a XP guest on vb 3.08 in Jaunty 9.04 64-bit (well, had to disable and enable it again, but it worked). After upgrading to 9.10, blue screen every time I want to use it and XP crash when I click at the bottom status bar to select it. Upgraded vb to 3.10, same result, device unusable.

lets check dmsg output:

it stated on 9.04:

usa19qw.fw was proprietary firmware, hence not available

and now on 9.10:

so device is attached to ttySB0

that is the difference I can spot. I have never used this adapter on ubuntu, only on the guest.

This issue continues after upgrade to Lucid amd64, the device is still unusable. I am ready to help debugging if somebody decides to do something about this.

Is this still happening with newer VirtualBox versions?
I'm also trying to use this Keyspan adapter, but I'm having other issues. One thing you might check is if the host system is using the device. Pls see this thread I started in the forum:

My "dmesg | grep USB" output doesn't have the line "Keyspan 1 port adapter converter now attached to ttyUSB0". Maybe this line indicates the host connected to the device, so the guest will have problems trying to use it.
If you blacklist drivers, try "locate keyspan" and "locate usbserial" for clues on what to blacklist (newbie hint, use at own risk).
