#5420 closed defect (fixed)

When guest SMP is enabled, root partition of Gentoo Linux guest sometimes becomes read-only, or the guest freezes -> retry with 3.1.4

Reported by: Marcus Schätzle Owned by:
Component: guest smp Version: VirtualBox 3.0.10
Keywords: guest smp causing a read-only root partition or guest freeze with Gentoo Linux Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

Description

When I have SMP enabled for my Gentoo Linux guest, after some hours of compiling (like 2 or 3 hours or so) I often receive a message that my root partition has become read-only, and I have to switch off and restart the guest. It happened also for me that the guest simply froze. But it can also happen if the guest is idle, for example I had another Gentoo guest active over night and when I checked it in the morning, it was frozen. It seems to me though that the problems occur most of the time after a certain time of high CPU load.

I have never had a lock of my root partition with deactivated SMP.

Retry with 3.1.4. That version will include an important stability fix for SMP guests.
