I was unable to find a ticket on this version of Virtualbox for this issue.

When my nic changes, or I cannot connect to a network, I receive the reported error.  I do not have a fix for when I cannot connect to a network.  When my nic changes, I do the following fix:

cd ~/.Virtualbox/Machines/<machinename>

vi <machinename>.xml

search ""eth"" in vi, using ""/eth"" (my nic is eth, yours may differ)

change eth number to the correct eth number for this particular connection.  

:wq! - save the configuration file

VBoxManage startvm <machinename> - start virtualbox
