Auto resize not working in 3.0.6 -> needs X.Org 7.2 (Server 1.3) or later in guest

Description

I am running VBox 3.0.6 on Windows 7 x64 (RC1). After installing fresh CentOS 5.3 with only twa manager I updated all packages using yum. Then I installed XFCE from CentOS repos. yum groupinstall "XFCE". After rebooting I logged in as root and did run from /media/VBOx..../ sh ./VBoxLinux*amd64.run. There were no errors. After rebooting again I logged using fxce manager. I can see that mouse is working fine when mowing between host and guest. But auto resize is not taking affect. I try to enable it on VBOX menu. This was working for me in previous vbox version. I do not have previous vbxox image to test.

Please attach an Xorg.log.0 file of your guest to this ticket.

And try deleting .vboxclient-*.pid from your home directory and restarting the X11 session to see if that helps.

Removing .vboxclient-*.pid and restarting did not help. Also attached my Xorg log file

And can you check whether VBoxClient --display is running as your logged in user?

comment:5 by oxoocoffee, 15 years ago

I do not see VBoxClient --display running as logged in user. ps -ef | grep -i vbox shows

root /usr/sbin/vboxadd-service user /usr/bin/VBoxClient --clipboard user /usr/bin/VBoxClient --seamless

Also while building vbox tools I see this message while openGL enabled or disabled before starting centos guest. I am running kernel version 2.6.18-164.el5 x86_64

"This system does not seem to have support for OpenGL direct rendering. VirtualBox requires Linux 2.6.27 or later for this. Please see log"

I am also attaching vboxadd-install.log

Aaargh - I should have checked the X.Org version in the log file. Dynamice resizing does not work with the version of X.Org you have installed in the guest, as that version does not support adding new resolutions while the server is running.

What is the minimum version required?
