i've tried to attach a webcam to a windows xp guest on my opensolaris host, running opensolaris b122 (current version). the error message i get is:

Das USB-Gerät ARKMICRO USB2.0 PC CAMERA [0100] konnte nicht an die virtuelle Maschine xp gebunden werden. Failed to create a proxy device for the USB device. (Error: VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

Fehlercode: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Komponente: Console Interface: IConsole {0a51994b-cbc6-4686-94eb-d4e4023280e2}

i've removed the virtualbox package and installed it again. and i've found the following forum post which describes as similar, but not identical problem. the described workaround renders my system unbootable. i had to step back to an older bootenvironment. the failure message while booting is: vboxdrv: mod_install failed! rc=6 . rc=6 cannot be found in the shell script. additionally i've the dmeg output of my system while adding the webcam device.

There is no support for Isochronous devices for VirtualBox on OpenSolaris hosts yet. But for much improved USB support in general, please switch to VirtualBox 3.1+ and Opensolaris snv_125 or above.

  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Resolution set to fixed

The only solution is to upgrade the OS, reopen if required. Closing as fixed for now.
