Windows XP guest will not boot after applying Antivirus Software — at Initial Version

Description
Once either the latest versions of Avast or AVG have been installed, a Windows XP SP3 guessed will not reboot. Please see the attached screenshot. Uninstalling the software doesnt fix the issue. The VM is fine until either is installed.
