#4762 closed defect (duplicate)

Ubuntu Host (9.04) - Windows (XP and 7) Guest - High CPU Usage w/Firefox

Reported by: Tomas Gutierrez Owned by:
Component: VMM Version: VirtualBox 3.0.4
Keywords: CPU usage, firefox, ubuntu, windows Cc:
Guest type: Windows Host type: Linux

Description (last modified by Frank Mehnert)

Host: Ubuntu 9.04 Guest: Windows XP & 7

CPU usage on both host and guest are minimal with no programs open. When firefox is launched, and a Javascript intensive page is opened (ex. gmail), one core on the host shows 100% utilization, while the guest remains minimal. Usage returns to normal when Firefox is closed.

The workaround is to open a secondary VM and run it idly along with the guest.

Bump. Thoughts? Is there anything I can provide to help with this?

VBox.log of the Windows VM for starters would be useful. (when the 100% cpu overhead has occurred)

Windows 7 VBox.log

Attaching the VBox log. I looked into it, but it's not coming up with any useful information on the issue. The core goes to 100%, but there is no entry in the log in between Fullscreen commands.

Is there any way to make the log more verbose? Anything else I could do?

It's incomplete. Make sure you close the VM and then take the log.

Added a complete log. I started the VM opened FF, went to gmail, got 100% core utilization, shutdown VM.

Let me know if anything else is needed.

http://www.virtualbox.de/ticket/1884 seems to be a similar ticket.

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Please reopen if still relevant with VBox 3.1.6. Please attach a new VBox.log file in that case.

This is still going on. However, I created a new ticket for Ubuntu 9.10. I will be updating that one the 3.1.6 logs.

The new ticket is: http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/6204

I'm also going to reopen this since it's still a problem.
