Description
Host-interface networking (Vbox adapter) is affecting some 3rd party applications.
One example is Warcraft 3 game - LAN mode play - that refuses to work with VirtualBox installed.
Warcraft 3 (LAN mode) presumes two things:
- same IP subnet address
- working with "first" ethernet interface found on host (the game seems to decide this)
Basically VBox Host-If is perceived by War3 as the first interface, and the game refuses to connect to other computers on a LAN via the real Ethernet interface.
Once VBox Host-If is disabled, Warcraft 3 runs again in LAN mode.
While this is not VirtualBox bug per-se, this problem has bad effects on running VirtualBox in home environments. (in that seemingly unrelated things such as VBox and War3 refuse to work together nicely)
Can we at least document it?
One idea: --- maybe install Host-If adapter driver only if one has VMs that use Host Networking... This may hide the problem deeper, but will not resolve it.
any better ideas ?!
