Blue Screen on Windows XP installation

Description

  • Host: Ubuntu 9.0.4 (x86_64)
  • Guest: Windows XP SP3

Symtoms:

  • BSOD was occurred on guest installation time.
  • Text mode setup was passed.
  • Next GUI setup was failed on install system device drivers.

Short configuration:

  • VT-x enabled.
  • SATA enabled.
  • IDE controller is ICH6.
  • USB disabled.
  • Audio disabled.
  • NIC disabled.
  • Primary virtual disk was attached to SATA-0.
  • Intel Chipset driver was integrated into Windows Setup Media.

Same here with VB 3.0.4 on ubntu 9.0.4 and XP sp3

IO-ACPI overhead issues without VT-x BSOD with VT-x enabled.

vbox.log shows same lines before the crash:
