I think this is the same problem as #4433 . We should probably try with 3.0.2 now and see if it's fixed.

comment:2 by paul davies, 15 years ago

hi

have applied 3.0.2 as instructed but no change?? i am running with no x-windows would this have anything to do it?

comment:3 by paul davies, 15 years ago

i have installed a second Linux OS this time its opensuse 10.3 add all is fine, it appears to only happen with Suse Enterprise?

comment:4 by Frank Mehnert, 14 years ago

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Please reopen if this is still a problem with VBox 3.1.8

I was poking around with SLES 10 + OES2 32bit in a vbox v4.1.20 host and ran into similar looking "sf_..." kernel errors. I am documenting this for the search engines to help all others that may stumble upon similar issues.

The symptom was that _All_ rpm's would fail to install, and /var/log/messages would start showing "ata" errors. I tried everything from single cpu to "nosmp" kernel param to even changing from SATA to IDE, but to no avail.

Ultimately I put 2+2 together and noticed that the sf_ looked vaguely familiar to the /media/sf_$SHARENAME that I use for the vbox client auto mount of the shares. Sure enough, after turning it off, the problem went away 100%.

While I haven't tried or noticed the auto mount being a problem in the SLES 11 systems, the auto mounting shares on OES2 (SLES 10 SP4) systesm completely break the system. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that OES has it's own CIFS/Samba related browse master still going on during the same time, who knows.

Anyways, just figured I would let others know since all traces of this on the internet seem to be totally wrong guesses and/or solutions ;)

ciao o/
