#439 closed defect (fixed)

Keyboard shortcuts don't work in Full screen mode

Description

I use Ubuntu Feisty host and WinXP Pro Guest

When putting VirtualBox into fullscreen mode, ALT+TAB gets sent to the host, and never to the Guest. Going back out of fullscreen, restores the functionality.

I also see this and can add that it was a problem in 1.3.8 as well.

This issue is still present in VirtualBox-1.5.0 OSE.

I also get this problem (no host hot keys are captured, not just Alt-TAB). However, I've found that enabling compiz (setting "Visual Effects" to Normal) fixes the problem. Unfortunately it also has a tendency to create graphic problems, especially when switching a guest between full screen & windowed.

This is running Ubuntu Gutsy host with a Win2K guest on VirtualBox 1.5.4 full version.

I have the same problem with VirtualBox 1.5.4 full version in a WinXP Pro guest on an Ubuntu Gutsy host. The only workaround I have found is using the SDL frontend.

Actually, to me this behavior was the main reason to use VirtualBox over VMWare. I use VirtualBox with a Windows-guest to run the one Windows application I need, which will not run on Linux. Still having my global Linux-Desktop-Shortcuts available in the Windows Application is a MUST-HAVE feature if you want to call that application "integrated".

This Behaviour changed in VirtualBox 1.5.6.

It's now impossible for me to perform task switch or desktop switch on Linux when the Windows-Guest is in Full Screen Mode.

I can see that this is annoying to people who run more than one Windows Application, so I plead for this to be a configuration switch. Not having the old behaviour is a drastic decline in usability which will cause me to switch back to the old version.

Have you tried the seamless mode?

Replying to Gandalf:

Yes, by Fullscreen I meant seemless (if that's what I get by hitting <host>+L). I assumed, that's what the others were talking about, as their problem (and my pleasure) only occured in that mode.

1.5.4 OSE, Ubuntu Gutsy, Compiz 0.7.0. I get this occasionally, I can't seem to figure out what makes it happen or not. Also, when it happens, I can't use the host key either (so no getting out of seamless! Need to use vboxmanage setextradata...)

I also use Gutsy, but don't have a problem on 1.5.4, just 1.5.6. Also the Host-Key has always been working for me, so maybe your problem is a different one, where Shortcuts just aren't recognized in general.
