Guest fails to start w/VLAN Interface in OSX

error: Unknown error creating VM (VERR_GENERAL_FAILURE).

how to reproduce:

  1. Create VLAN Interface in OSX (Requires Supported Interface)
  2. Assign VLAN Interface to Virtual Interface in a new or existing Guest.
  3. Start Guest, error is encountered.

Note, this setup works fine in both OpenSolaris & Debian VBox Hosts.

bridging the physical interface and then trying to setup a vlan interface within guest fails to pass vlan tags out host interface. This behavior is the same in all Host OS's apparently.

this issue completely prevents direct network access from a vlan tagging OSX host, NAT and Internal network seem to work normally.

Verified this issue still exists in 3.0.2-44928-OSX

Observed same issue in 2.2.x versions.

Issue still exists in latest VirtualBox-3.1.6-59351-OSX on up-to-date SnowLeopard, however with a new error (attaching screenshot of new error message)

NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)

Still present 3.2.6 r63112 on Leopard, CentOS 5.4 guest OS, even if I set the MAC address to the same as the host NIC.

Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
