Description (last modified by )
I am a happy user of virtualbox since the 1.4 days, at least. I have many uses for it, but one of the most important is to be able to use itunes to syncro my iphone. I hate this requirement, but it is a bussiness phone.
Using virtualbox 2.2.4, itunes 8.0.2 and iphone 3G 2.2.1, I can syncro the phone very slowly, but it works... most of the time.
But if I upgrade itunes to 8.1 or the new 8.2, the itunes doesn't recognize the phone. It can sense there is a iphone out there, but can not link to it.
Now some details about my environment:
My machine is pretty old. It is a Pentium 4 running at 3.6Ghz, very loaded. I am running an old SUSE version (10.0) heavily patched. My kernel is old but very patched too (2.6.13-15.18-smp). My environment in general is old but I can patched it easily (sort of). I can not upgrade to a recent distribution, nevertheless.
Do I have any hope?.
I have some AMD Opteron Solaris machines available, and I am considering to use VirtualBox there, if it is going to work better. But I rather prefer to solve the issue of my personal machine.
Any suggestion?

Updating to brand new VirtualBox 3.0.0 does *NOT* solve the issue. In fact, the syncronization is not working at all after upgrading VB, using both Itunes 8.0 and 8.2.
I am reverting the VB upgrade and go back to 2.2.4 now...
PS: VirtualBox under Solaris 10 doesn't support USB. I have some powerful Solaris 10 machines around, but this is a showstopper. I am dead in the water...

Hi. I have similar problems with the iPhone - iTunes sync. It's a drag. However now I've started using following procedure :
- launch the iPhone sync
- minimize the iTunes application as quickly as possible and let the sync run within the minimized iTunes.
This approach seems to keep the machine processor at a normal level. I have a suspicion that the sync takes (even) longer, but I haven't measured it.
Host : Ubuntu H H, up to date Guest : Windows XP, SP3 (I think) Vbox : 3.0.4 r50677 iTunes : 8.2.1.6 (though these problems have been across many versions) iPhone software : 3.0.1 (though these problems...)

I have a similar problem.
Using virtualbox 2.2.4, itunes 8.2.0 and iphone 2.2.0 (First Gen) Virtual box running on Ubuntu Jaunty, with WinXP as guest
My itunes is able to detect my iphone. However, whenever I start to sync, my guest OS will hang and I have to kill off virtual box.
Anyone having similiar issues as well?
