What happens if you execute

/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

-- can you start your VM after this?

comment:2 by JonCharge, 15 years ago

jon@central:~$ /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

  • Stopping VirtualBox kernel module
  • Cannot unload module vboxdrv

I attempted to start the vm afterward, with same results, no success.

If the kernel module cannot be unloaded then please make sure that no VM is running when you perform this action. Do this after you rebooted the host immediately after you logged in. If you get the same error message, do lsmod | grep vbox on the host and show the output. Attach the output of dmesg to this ticket as well.
